December 2010 Update
The youth music programme in partnership with the YMCA has continued. Justice Canada accepted the final report on the conference, however, they have announced a hold on future funding proposals. Therefore, partners will have to seek funding elsewhere to continue the work. It is our hope that significant connections were made to support future partnerships on behalf of youth in the region.
June 2010 Update
Report to Justice Canada
It has been just over 2 months since the conference and the committee has been actively involved in completing the conference report. Thus far, the official reports have been submitted to Justice Canada and we are awaiting final word.
Report for you
In the meantime, we have been working on the conference journal which will be provided to all of the participants, detailing the discussions and key recommendations. We were also able to conduct youth focus groups and have added that information to the conference notes. Once we receive the final instalment of funding, we will be able to finalize and distribute the conference journal to you.
The Path Forward
Over the next 10 months, we will be meeting with potential partners and youth interested in working on the project to put together a proposal based on the conference recommendations. We will be seeking support for the proposal from participants. One of the conference organizers, Dengell L. has been working with a conference delegate, Christine S. to establish a volunteer programme at the YMCA using music as a means of connecting with young people. This will help to keep the lines of communication open and allow for the continuous flow of input from young people throughout the proposal development phase.
